The times change. And if Clark Kent already demonstrated in his time that you did not have to go through life as a tough man to be a superhero, neither more nor less than Superman.
His son Jon has gone a step further by declaring his bisexuality in the next issue of the series in which he stars, titled Superman: Son of Kal-El.
DC Comics has announced that in the comic, which will be published on November 9, the seventeen-year-old will begin a romantic relationship with reporter Jay Nakamura who, in turn, is a fervent admirer of the new superhero’s mother.
“After a scene in which Superman is exhausted mentally and physically trying to save everyone he can, Jay is there to take care of the Man of Steel,”
The publisher announced as a forward and next to the image in which they appear the two characters kissing.
Tom Taylor, the comic book writer, stated in an interview with IGN that “over the years in this industry, you probably won’t be surprised to hear that I’ve been rejected by queer characters and stories. I felt like I was disappointing the people I loved. every time this happened.
” For this reason, he considered that “replacing Clark with another heterosexual white savior could be a real missed opportunity”, which is why he decided that the time had come to make the big step.
“I have always said that everyone needs heroes and everyone deserves to see themselves in their heroes,” he remarks.
Jon Kent was presented for the first time in 2015, although it was not until this year when he began to gain strength as a protagonist and a new superhero, following in the wake of his father.
